South Korean company Naru Security, a specialist in threat hunting and cyber intelligence, has chosen Luxembourg as the location for its European headquarters. The company wants to deploy its technologies here as the state threat intensifies.

Naru Security has taken a key step in its internationalisation by setting up its European headquarters in Luxembourg. The announcement, confirmed by the Luxembourg Trade & Invest agency, comes just a few months after the local public discovered the company at the Nexus2050 trade fair, where its founder Joon Kim presented the ambitions of the South Korean company. The decision to establish an official presence in the country is part of a move to deepen technological relations between Seoul and Luxembourg, recently strengthened by the opening of the Grand Duchy's new resident embassy in the South Korean capital.

Founded in 2010, Naru Security specialises in government cybersecurity in South Korea. Joon Kim, a former member of the Korea Internet & Security Agency (Kisa), worked for a long time in national incident response teams and advised sensitive institutions such as the Cyber Command and the national police. These years of direct confrontation with state actors have shaped a rare expertise in threat hunting, detection of complex intrusions and cyber intelligence. In particular, the company has distinguished itself by analysing operations attributed to North Korea, whose attack methodologies it has long followed.

For Joon Kim, the rapid evolution of the threat now makes advanced proactive detection capabilities essential. What he described as exceptional a decade ago has now become commonplace: highly sophisticated attacks are on the increase, carried out by Russian, Chinese or North Korean state actors. Naru Security is now also developing tools and methodologies to monitor the operations of other groups more widely, including those linked to Russia.

The establishment of the European headquarters in Luxembourg marks the opening of a new chapter. For the company, the country offers a stable regulatory environment, a strong national cybersecurity strategy and direct access to European institutional players. Here, Naru Security hopes to offer its threat hunting, advanced incident response and bespoke intelligence capabilities to both public bodies and private players in critical sectors.

During their mission to South Korea at the beginning of July, ministers Xavier Bettel and Stéphanie Obertin, accompanied by Luxembourg innovation and cybersecurity representatives, met Naru Security and other Korean technology companies. These discussions are continuing today in Luxembourg with the House of Cybersecurity, which Joon Kim is due to meet to explore opportunities for collaboration.

By choosing the Grand Duchy to structure its European expansion, Naru Security aims to make a direct contribution to strengthening the continent's digital resilience. For Kim, the objective is clear: to provide Europe with expertise forged in one of the world's most exposed geopolitical environments in order to help "make European cyberspace better".
